On Wednesday 12 October, the 107th Anniversary of Edith Cavell’s execution invited guests gathered beneath her statue to remember her.  The memorial service was led by the Chair of the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, Susan Gostick.  We sang Cavell’s favourite hymn, ‘Abide with me’, and a minute’s silence took place.  Wreaths were laid by our Master, Julia Mingay and the Chair of the Charitable Trust, Brenda Griffiths, among others.  The Royal London Hospital was represented by three nurses dressed in their traditional uniforms.

It was a moving memorial service for a supremely courageous nurse, conducted against a background of the noisy bustle of London traffic.

“Patriotism is not enough.  I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone”.
