World Record Attempt for CPR Broken

Members of the Worshipful Company of Nurses are now world record holders having been part of the team led by Central London Alliance and supported by St John’s Ambulance, to break the World Record for the most people performing CPR in one hour.

The event took place in the Tower Suites, Minories, London on 23 September.

The record now stands at 434 people attempting CPR in one hour and participants included the Lady Mayor, Sheriffs, Aldermen of the City of London, the Mayor of Westminster, members of a number of Livery Companies, members of the public and hotel staff from the venue. Over 1000 people took part in the whole event set over two days, many having had no previous experience in CPR.

This has helped to raise awareness of this life saving skill and getting many more people certified, capable and confident to perform CPR. Seemingly one trained volunteer prior to the event had already put their skill into good use by saving a life in a real casualty situation. An excellent result all round. Special Company thanks are due to Court Assistant Emma Hammett, and to Deirdre Barr, Pam Martin and Irene Heywood Jones for assisting with marshalling during the record attempt.
