The Worshipful Company of Nurses honours John Allen, Honorary Clerk and Martin Whitehead, Honorary Beadle

Wednesday 12 July 2023

At the first Court Meeting of the Worshipful Company of Nurses on Wednesday 12 July 2023, it was unanimously agreed that two stalwarts of the Company be honoured by bestowing one as Honorary Liveryman and the other as an Honorary Freemen. In the Ordinances of the Worshipful Company, the Court has the discretion to "elect to Honorary Livery status" and/or "present the Honorary Freedom of the Company upon any distinguished person, or for noteworthy services rendered to the Company or to the nursing profession".

John Allen, Honorary Clerk to the Company, was installed as the first Honorary Liveryman in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Company since June 2017. John has seen the Guild of Nurses become a Company without Livery and now a full Livery Company. His sound advice and wise counsel have been without measure, and the Company owes him a huge debt of gratitude.

Our Honorary Beadle, Martin Whitehead, who has been the Beadle since the Court of Aldermen approved the formation of The Guild of Nurses in February 2016, was presented with the Freedom of the Worshipful Company of Nurses by the Master.

The Company are delighted to recognise and thank both these individuals for their tireless services to the Company.
