The Big Curry Lunch – 2025

During early discussion around the Worshipful Company of Nurses supporting the Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch on Thursday10 April, the Master had no difficulty remembering that date as it coincided with her important birthday. Undaunted, she put out a call for members to volunteer their service to support this important charity event which raises funds to support military veterans and their families on behalf of the Army Benevolent Fund.

Her faith in us was rewarded as more than 30 nurse members rolled up their sleeves for a variety of tasks. Luckily it did not involve any cooking duties, which were ably supplied by military catering teams who provided a magnificent lunch for nearly 2000 people. Our contribution saved the charity a total of £10,000 in manpower which could be reinvested into the good causes.

It was a great experience, a fun time over a long day, yet a privilege to offer our service to help others in need, which particularly involve areas of rehabilitation and support back to work within the civilian community.

Tiring yes, but a joy to work alongside our nurse colleagues and meet other people involved in City of London life, and concluding with a welcome curry meal for volunteers.

And after Jane had dedicated herself to the day, we could not let her big birthday pass by and we had a relaxed celebration afterwards.  Just how many people can say they spent a birthday in the Guildhall among colleagues and friends? Quite a memorable event.

Maybe you too could volunteer your service next year and participate in the Big Curry Lunch if we are invited back.  It comes recommended by the 2025 pioneer group.
