Pathway to Becoming a Livery Company
In the wonderful surroundings of Cutler’s Hall, on Thursday 27 June, our Honorary Clerk gave a fascinating talk about the history of the Livery movement and our pathway to becoming a Livery Company. There then ensued a lively debate about this journey. The enthusiasm for being a part of it was palpable!
During this discussion, the Chair for the Company of Nurses Charitable Trust (CNCT) proposed that our Freemen and Members each give the equivalent of a cup of coffee or even a glass of wine or two every month and send this amount by standing order to our Clerk for the CNCT. We wouldn’t really notice the difference but those nurses in need and their patients would!
I am a Freeman of our Guild and I can tell you how good it feels to be able to make such a difference. I had the responsibility of giving money left to me by my father to those in need. He was so proud of both my daughter, Abi and me for our work in nursing so I know he is pleased we can give to nurses in need who in turn can help their patients.
It is wonderful to be able to say that the first such award has now been made from this fund and it enables a community based nurse who cares for the homeless, to undertake a course that supports her in this work.
I hope you can share this happy experience by setting up your own donation!
