Middle Temple – Tour and Lunch Fri 17 Apr 2026

38 members of the company and several guests were given a fascinating tour of Middle Temple, and our excellent guides provided a potted history of the buildings, which date back to the Knights Templar in the 12th century, through subsequent changes in monarchy and ownership of this honourable area of London.

The grand historic buildings, now designated for use by the legal profession, are magnificent in content and detail of interior, in particular the wooden screen on the gallery that had been so finely carved in the age of Elizabeth 1. It was shattered by bombing in WW2, as were a lot of the surrounding buildings.

Undaunted, the wooden pieces were collected into 200 bags for painstaking repair of the revered item in the Great Hall. Within these elegant surroundings of historic pictures and heraldic shields we joined the buzz of activity and took an excellent lunch among working members of the legal profession.
