Master’s News for April 22
The Master has had a busy month representing the Company at many events. A summary is here and a full report with more photographs is on the Freemen’s Noticeboard.
The Master was delighted to be invited to celebrate Corps day with the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps Association at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. She attended a service in the Wren Chapel followed by a buffet lunch in the State Rooms. It was a wonderful for her to share this occasion with so many of our Freemen who are part of the QARANC.
Wednesday 30 March
On behalf of the Company of Nurses the Master joined the Big Sleep Out arranged by the Lady Mayoress in Guildhall Courtyard to support the Lord Mayors’ Appeal. About 100 people gathered after 9pm on the 30th March to set up their sleeping bags and get ready for spending the night outside. It was very cold, and at times wet, but the hardship was for one night only and the participants were rewarded with coffee and bacon rolls at 5am in the morning. The Master was very aware that those less fortunate who spend their time on the street, do not have that luxury and do not have the benefit of security and bathroom facilities. A proportion of the money raised at the sleep out is going to Spitalfields Crypt Trust which is an East London charity helping the local community to recover from homelessness, addictions and other complex needs. Thank you to all who sponsored Fran.
Tuesday 5 April
On Tuesday 5 April the Master accompanied the Lady Mayoress and the Master Barber’s Consort to the Florence Nightingale Museum. Whilst there the Master took the opportunity to present the Lady Mayoress with a lamp from the museum explaining how we use the same replica for our tradition of passing the loving cup.
The museum is opening again on the 12 May and it is well worth a visit. It can be found in the grounds of St Thomas’s hospital.
