London’s Air Ambulance Charity share news of Scholar, Mariana Campilho

Mariana Campilho London’s Air Ambulance Charity reports that our scholar, Mariana Campilho, is clearly making a very positive contribution in her new role. Mariana was granted a prestigious award by The Company of Nurses Charitable Trust Scholarship Programme in 2021. With our support, Mariana undertook the Masters (MSc) degree run by the Institute of Pre-Hospital Care (IoPHC), a department within London’s Air Ambulance Charity. The Charity tells us that they had their monthly Clinical Governance Day recently. This is where cases are reviewed, clinical updates are shared and presentations are made by guest speakers who share their expertise on topics of interest.

One of the Physician Response Unit (PRU) cases that Mariana attended was audited and she displayed excellence in talking through her rationale for providing the care she did for the patient. She demonstrated her understanding of the complex medical history and the needs of the patient and their family. The team managed to treat the patient at home which saved an inevitably long hospital wait and meant the patient could stay with their loved ones, when previously going into the hospital had caused extreme distress.

The audits are an essential part of the Clinical Governance and Effectiveness of the team with learning points being used to improve ongoing service delivery. The Governance Day is open to all healthcare professionals and medical students involved in pre-hospital care, so the learning is disseminated further. Mariana contributed openly to the forum, aiding the professional development of her colleagues and peers.
