Freedom of the City of London Ceremonies – 6 Mar 2025

Two Freedom of the City of London ceremonies were arranged with the Chamberlain’s office at Guildhall. These were held back-to-back on Thursday 6th March 2025, with the Master, Upper Warden, three Court Assistants, Clerk and guests in attendance. Being admitted to the Freedom of the City is a unique part of London’s history and many people who have lived or worked in the City have been proud to have achieved this honour. Freemen of the Worshipful Company of Nurses who wish to take the next step towards becoming Liverymen must first become Free of the City.

Twelve Freemen were admitted to the Freedom of the City in this ancient ceremony conducted by Laura Miller, Clerk to the Chamberlain’s Court. Laura welcomed and congratulated all the new Freemen who are now Citizens and Nurses of the City of London. Laura then spoke about some the importance of the City of London in terms of trade, showed some historical artifacts, and pictures of some famous recipients of the Freedom of the City including the box presented to Florence Nightingale when she received her Freedom of the City aged 88 years.

A celebratory lunch was held in the Private Dining Room at Guildhall after the ceremonies, where those present were honoured to briefly meet the Lord Mayor, Alistair King who heard there were some nurses around, and popped in to greet the newest Freemen of the City!

Congratulations to all those Freemen who attended on the 6th. The Company looks forward to receiving their applications for Livery in due course.

Members of the Company will be able to view the photographs of the event in the ’Galleries’ in the log in section of the website.

If you are not yet Free of the City, and would like further information about the application process, please contact the Clerk at clerk@companyofnurses.co.uk
