Freedom Ceremony and Afternoon Tea Wednesday 18 May 22

Company of Nurses

It was so lovely to be back in Guildhall where we were able to hold a face to face Freedom Ceremony. Freedom ceremonies are organised so that the new applicants who have been approved by the Court can make their declarations to the Company in the presence of the Master, Wardens and Court Assistants and so may be granted the Freedom of the Company of Nurses.

We welcomed 13 new Freeman together with 8 others who had made their declarations virtually over the last two years and who were now signing the register in person. During the ceremony each new Freeman was invited to make their declaration, be clothed in a gown and were individually welcomed by the Master, Julia Mingay. Following the ceremony, the Master welcomed everybody and gave a short speech. After the formal part of the afternoon, the new Freemen, their friends, family, guests and some of our Bicentennial Freemen all enjoyed a sparkling afternoon tea to celebrate and come together in fellowship. The chatter in the informal part of the afternoon was splendid to hear as new and old acquaintances were made and renewed, with at least one new Freeman recognising a fellow nurse from her training days!
