ON MAY 11th. Founders of the newly formed Guild of Nurses attended the service in Westminster Abbey to commemorate the life of Florence Nightingale. This was at the invitation of the Florence Nightingale Foundation. This annual event sees the Nightingale Lamp processed through the Abbey in recognition, not only of the life and work of Florence Nightingale herself, but also of all nurses past, present and future.
It was a wonderful experience to see so many nurses from all over the country and abroad gathered together. The members of the Guild felt honoured to attend such an occasion and meet so many others interested nurses with equal pride in their profession. It was also the first opportunity for the Wardens to wear their Guild robes, which are modeled on traditional nurse’s capes.
