Education Event – St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney – Wed 23 Oct 2024
The evening commenced with a personal tour around St Joseph’s Hospice, one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK. The hospice was founded in 1905 by the Sisters of Charity. The tour included the beautiful chapel - a refuge for patients, visitors, and staff alike.
We were also able to visit the day centre, wards, gardens and education centre with Carolyne, Head of Mission and nurse, who gave those present a feel for the history and ethos of the hospice. At 6pm, we were joined by fellow members of the Company for a hybrid education evening and two inspiring talks followed.
The first was given by Liveryman Jane Naismith, CEO and Director of Clinical Services at St Joseph’s on recognising End of Life and Advanced Care Planning. The second was given by Paddy Browne, Freeman of the Company and eHealth Director of Nursing who gave a detailed talk on the management and care of patients with Parkinson’s disease covering Deep Brain Stimulation and the benefits and shortfalls of levodopa infusions. This was a fascinating evening which sparked much discussion.
Presentations from this event are available in the Members Login Area/Company Information/Education and Professional Development.
