Belgium Trip Day 4
The last day of our tour saw us exploring the history of the Second World War and the retreat of allied troops in 1940 towards Dunkirk.
We visited the site of a massacre of British troops and one French soldier at the hands of the SS on 28 May 1940, despite the Geneva convention being in place at the time. We reflected on the role of nurses working both in France and back in the UK, looking after the injured soldiers and civilians and their lasting legacy for nursing as a global humanitarian profession. We are proud to have Army, Navy and Royal Air Force nurses as members of our Company.
The Company placed a small cross and wreath at the memorial of those soldiers massacred on the 28th May 1940.
