Annual Service and Declaration Ceremony – 14 Oct 2019
On Monday 14th October, the Guild held its annual service in St. Lawrence Jewry. Many freemen and their guests attended. We were also delighted to welcome representatives of our charitable donors; Nightingale Fellowship, Chantry-Robinson Fund and the Ann Campbell RBNA Memorial fund. Other guests included the Masters and Clerks from the Guild of Entrepreneurs and Guild of Investment Managers.
Now that we have had our fourth year, a form of service has been established which members find both enjoyable but also rather moving. This year a number of people commented especially on the privilege of being able to renew their commitment to nursing in so special a space at the heart of the City of London.
This year we were particularly fortunate in having The Very Rev’d Dr. David Ison , Dean of St. Paul’s, preaching a remarkable and insightful sermon. We were also honoured that Freeman of the Guild Alex Hayward and her husband Christopher, who is one of the current Sheriffs of the City of London were able to spend the evening with us in what must be a hectic year for them both.
Afterwards we repaired to the members dining room in Guildhall, where ten members were made Freemen of the Guild. Our Master, Elizabeth Turnbull, then delivered an inspiring speech. The rest of the evening was given over to enjoying a delicious supper with much fun and conviviality with many opportunities to renew and make new friendships.
