Annual Church Service and Declaration – 13 Oct 21

On Wednesday 13th October the Company of Nurses held their annual church service at St. Lawrence Jewry in the City of London. It felt wonderful to be back together, again and gave us a chance to reflect on the difficult time humanity has faced during the pandemic.  This, while celebrating the achievements of so many, not least nurses working on the front line.

The Right Rev’d Christopher Chessun, Bishop of Southwark preached and we enjoyed the beautiful singing by the University of London Church Choir. We are grateful to them for making the service so special and meaningful. Our Honorary Chaplain, the Rev’d Charles Pickstone, presided. We were again able to renew our commitment to the nursing profession.

The service was followed by a Freedom of the Company of Nurses ceremony in Guildhall, led by our Master, Fran Davies. We welcomed six new Freeman together, with those who had made their declarations virtually over the last eighteen months.

Celebrations continued with a delicious supper and much conviviality.

It was a splendid occasion, and our thanks go to all those involved in organising the event.
