Annual Assembly 28 Apr 22
At the Annual Assembly of the Company of Nurses held on 28 April 2022, the Master Frances Davies was pleased to announce that the Court had elected Julia Mingay to be Master for the ensuing year. Julia will be installed at the Anniversary Banquet on 4 May. In a formal ceremony at this meeting the Master installed Elizabeth Bardolph as Upper Warden, Jane Carey-Harris as Middle Warden and also announced that Anne Milton had been elected to the office of Renter Warden. Fran wished all of them a very happy and successful year ahead.
In her annual report, the Master gave details of the Company’s activities for the past year and an update on recent events where she has represented the Company. These include the presentation of the Company awards at City University for outstanding Nursing Students, both in Children’s Nursing and Mental Health Nursing programmes. She was also recently honoured to be asked by Nursing Times to be part of the judging panel for its student awards in the post registration learning category. A copy of the Master's report is in the member’s section of the website.
At the Annual Assembly the annual report of the Trustees of the Company of Nurses Charitable Trust was received. The Charity is going from strength to strength. The annual accounts of the Company were presented by the Renter Warden and a copy of her report is also in the member’s section of the website. The accounts will be posted on the website once they have been independently examined.
The Master presented the Company with a gift of two velvet bonnets that will be worn by the Master and Upper Warden at formal ceremonial City Livery events in the future.
Also at this meeting, the Master was delighted to receive a gift to the Company presented by Freeman Jane Davis. A beautiful owl figure, titled Athena, is a gift from Geoffrey Fairfax MBE, the Beadle to the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, in recognition of his thanks to the nurses who looked after him following his stroke.
