116th anniversary of the death of Florence Nightingale – Thu 13 Aug 2026

Thursday 13 August, was the 116th anniversary of the death of Florence Nightingale. Company freeman Cecilia Orchard organised a visit to East Wellow Church for prayers around the graveside. Lunch was at Florence’s childhood home at Embley Park.

The Master and her Chaplain visited the tree where Florence received her Calling from God to become a nurse. Christine then spoke to the group of nurses about the Company, who enthusiastically asked questions and expressed interest in joining. Master and Chaplain then visited Romsey Abbey to view the Calling Window designed by Sophie Hacker, which depicts Florence’s calling by God to be a nurse.
